Kayla Blackburn
My name is Kayla Blackburn, and I am a rising senior at West Rowan High School, a mere 15 minute drive from the campus of Catawba College. I found an interest in environmental science in none other than my AP Environmental Science class, where I learned about the many aspects of our environment in a depth that not only opened my perspective, but caught my attention. I hope to pursue a college education in a field of math or science. I love to run and read, especially in the great outdoors! Thanks for visiting this blog! :)


Margaret Bowerman


I am a rising junior at Cheltenham High School in Cheltenham Pennsylvania. I run several other blogs and enjoy photography and constantly editing them. I enjoy photography, rowing, orienteering, fighting for fundamental rights, and binge watching TV shows. Blogging is a passion of mine, and I hope to be a successful blogger as a career.


 

Chloe Fedor

Yo! I am Chloe Fedor, a rising Senior at Green Hope High School in Cary, North Carolina. I love to be outdoors whether it's playing sports, walking through beautiful trails or hanging out at the beach. I play soccer and I am a lacrosse goalie. I enjoy eating A LOT (particularly Japanese food), my daily bible devotionals and beating my brother at basketball. I also love love love the spring and taking pictures of the sky! Although, my dream job isn't necessarily in the field of environmental studies, I do like learning new things about our environment while exploring the beautiful world we're blessed with!

Misa Harashima

Hi. My name is Misa Harashima. I am from Charlotte, NC. I go to South Mecklenburg High School, (I will be a rising junior there). I have a pet turtle named Gunther and a cat named Luna, like the moon.


Annabelle Nagy

Hey everyone! I'm Annabelle Nagy from Salisbury, NC and live less than ten minutes away from Catawba. I go to North Hills Christian School and will be a sophomore in the fall. I love all animals in the environment and protecting the environment for the animals well-being.


Meet the Green Inc. 2015 Councilors

Hannah Davis
I am a rising Junior at Catawba College from Raleigh, North Carolina. I am planning to major in Communications, here at Catawba, with minors in Environmental Studies and Creative Writing. This is my first year working at the Environmental Summit but I have worked for the Center for the Environment during the school year as a work study student for the past two years. I will be Editor for the Catawba College student newspaper, The Pioneer, next year. I am also an Environmental Steward, which is a scholarship program for environmental majors and minors on campus.




Mary Scott Norris

Mary Scott Norris is one of the Green Ink Counselors for the Redesigning Our Future Summit. She is a Junior at Catawba College majoring in Integrated Marketing and Communications. She is a member of the Delphinian Society and an ALPHA orientation leader. After attending the Summit herself when she was in high school and then returning again as a counselor, she hopes the students take away many good memories and experiences that will help them in all their future endeavors!

Cyndi Allison Wittum

Cyndi Allison Wittum teaches online publication, new media, and journalism classes at Catawba College. She has been a writer for over 30 years with magazine, newspaper, and online credits. She will be working with students on the blog project,"Green Ink," at Redesigning Our Future: National Environmental Summit for High School Students.

John and the field team collecting fish as part of a water quality research project in Bolivia A couple of years ago, Cathy Green and Dr. John Wear, the Center for the Environment’s director of operations and executive director, respectively, decided to go to a café in Durham, NC, after a long day of interviews. They were sipping on coffee when a familiar face approached them to say hello: Summit alumnus and then-Duke University student John Hare-Grogg .  John attended the National Environmental Summit in 2011, its first year, at a time when he still wasn’t sure where he saw his career going. We Did Eat Kudzu at Our Summer Summit

You Will Never Guess What We Are Getting Ready To Do Dr. Jay Bolin and His Invasive Plants and Animals Focus Group Eating Kudzu By Rafaello I went to a unique Discovery Group on Tuesday. It combined poison ivy and deep-frying. (No, we didn't deep-fry the ivy). The discovery session was called "Invasive Species and Biodiversity: Eating the Plant that ate the South!" and was taught by Dr. Jay Bolin, a biology professor here at Catawba College. Dr. Bolin started out the session by talking about specific invasive species , what they are, and how they work. He then told us we were going to go pick some kudzu . After walking for about 15 minutes (of which the last 5 minutes was through a lot of poison ivy), we got to the kudzu. Kudzu is a nasty plant. It is a vine that grows extremely fast, and basically on anything. I saw some kudzu climbing up trees basically everywhere. We picked kudzu (while avoiding the poison ivy that was also everywhere).
